My research is focused on understanding the organismal and environmental basis by which the biogeochemical cycles of carbon and nitrogen are regulated in the environment. Most recently, I have focused on coastal environments that have a significant impact on global carbon and nitrogen cycling, but where a mechanistic understanding of the relationship between microbial metabolism, environmental factors and ecosystem processes is lacking.
